A Houston Gem (The Miller Outdoor Theather)

General Impression/Idea: The Miller outdoors theather is a great place to go for family fun, with a picnic atmothphere day and night, perfect to see some really sublime shows, specially at night.

Body Paragraph:

(This sample paragraph is describing one of the performances at the "Day of The Hispanic Wolrd" Festival at The Miller Outdoor Theather, the performance was early in the night (8ish), before it developed, as do all nights were there is old mexican men and even a TINY amount of alcohol, into a huge singalong of that old mexican drunken song "El Rey", mariachi included, and before the chessiest pop/rock/in-spanish singer on the planet closed the night.)

The stage was a moving painting, the background was a luminescent blue emitting its own soft glow, just like the red lights that shone down on the dancers and created bold scarlet highlights, the red highlights blended with the backdrop’s own blue glow creating darting purple shadows that danced on the dancer’s costumes as they danced themselves, the dancers stomped in harmony with the beat, the peacock feathers on their ancient headdresses trembled heatedly, their headdresses matched their shields, their skirts, and their face paint, all red, blue, green, yellow, orange, white, and black. The young men kept stomping in circles to the music, as one of them broke off, while still stomping to the beat he stepped forward, his red and gold skirt and cape shaking to the music, he lifted his hands and cupped in his palms a fake wooden heart. He held the heart in the air with one hand, colorful feathers dangled from his bracelet, with his other hand he exposed, from somewhere under his cape, a tiny dagger with a light blue handle, the blade on fire with reds, blues, and darting purples, the music was now frantic and the melody forgotten, he stabbed the heart high above his head and then fell to his knees, collapsing in a rapture of passion. The dancers behind him became statues, but the beat continued, now devoid of melodies, slow and steady like a heartbeat, and so the curtain fell, like a cloth covering a painting that is to be moved somewhere, or be left in a cellar.

Highway 59; Dead or Alive

thesis:

The length of highway 59 has proved to be a place where I have experienced the most unforgettable memories since moving to Houston, it has been a place that I almost lost my life at, remembering laughing till my sides hurt just enjoying life with friends, or meeting new friends in the most bizarre kinds of ways.

Body Paragraph:

The history itself is strange without even contributing my own personal experiences. In Houston, this Highway is referred to as "Southwest Freeway," but it is commonly known as "South's Worst Freeway," because of the massive car population that seems continuous there. The population reaches around 371,000 vehicles per day, leaving no question regarding why this highway has been deemed one of the busiest freeways in the United States, driving on the highway, you are basically as insignificant as a drop of water in the ocean. Needless to say, the traffic on the highway is ridiculous, interestingly enough not only is the highway known for it's outrageous traffic, it is known for its role in transporting many illegal immigrants from Mexico to the United States. With that being said, it is obvious that there are bound to be many exciting things that happen everyday on this highway if the person is up for the experience.

Stone Gate Basketball Court

Thesis: There are basketball courts all over the nation, but what makes the court so special is the advanced features, the intense competitive spirit, and most important the tradition.
Firstly, the features on the court are amazing and uncommon. Instead of a normal, rope net like at other basketball courts, Stone Gate has chain nets. Chain nets are significant because making a goal in basketball is the purpose of the game. The term generally referred to as "nothing but net" is usually followed by the onomatopoeia "swoosh", symbolizing the sound the rope net makes. However, with chain nets elevates this "swooshing" to the next level. When a ball is thrown through the chain net, the net rattles, as if it were a rattle snake, that sound is much more intimidating than a "swoosh". Another feature of the court is that is both visually appealing and practical, is the roof. The roof hoovers the court like a flying saucer about to land on Earth. Besides the futuristic appeal, rain or shine you can still play basketball at the court.

Minute Maid Park

Thesis:

in the heart of downtown Houston, Minute Maid Park combines the feel of a classic old-time park with the amenities of modern ones making it the perfect place to enjoy yourself while watching our great American pastime. Whether you are a baseball fan or not, Minute Maid Park is a great place to visit!

Body Paragraph:

Minute Maid Park first opened in 2000 as the home of the Houston Astros. The park was Houston's first stadium that had a retractable roof. Not only could guests be protected from rain and humidity, but on a nice day the roof could be opened and the fresh air could be experienced by all. At most parks, guests are usualy so crowded together that they can feel each other's perspiration fill the air. But not at Minute Maid. Guests have been known to say," the park feels like a windy valley". The park was built around Houston's union station. To commemorate this, every time a home run is hit, a train on the left side of the field starts up and moves. You get to experience all this fun with up to 5,000 other people!
