A unique ecosystem the 24/7 Starbucks at the corner of Westheimer and Post Oak Boulevards has become, and become it has a unique part of Houston's identity, reflecting the city's own hectic and sometimes self-involved nature but still able to provide a welcoming niche for all of its inhabitants.
Body Paragraph:
What makes a coffee shop such an epitome of Houstonian metropolitan culture? Recall the feel of one of those lazy Sunday afternoons at home when it’s starkly obvious that work must be done but doing so would be as if wading in the ocean against a high tide. Enter Starbucks; providing the same nest of tranquility as home and enabling one to retreat off into his or her own world of fancy but still having a foot in the world of reality, that is the essence of this Starbucks. Perhaps we could meander on about how its lineup of coffees and brews bears a distinctively Houston feel, where Southern cowboy ruggedness meets metropolitan sophistication. But that’s a superficial claim, and only a small reason of why it appeals so strongly to Houstonians. Then how about the fact that the location lies along the crossroads of where much of the business and retail extraordinaire congregate, where these two opposing attitudes of business coalesce to produce a vibrant, energetic enclave which still bears composure and elegance? A compelling reason too, but still no dice. What about the personality of this Starbucks? Bingo. When Houstonians all across the city come to this Starbucks, they show up because the personality of this Starbucks resonates so deeply with the city they’ve come to call home.
This is very well written! I enjoyed reading your paragraph because the tone sounded sophisticated yet informal, which completely matches what you were writing about. Great vocabulary as well. It made me want to keep reading more and more. It also made me thirsty for a nice cup of coffee, well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat use of vocabulary, it's refreshing to hear all of these rich words. I have only been to a few Starbucks' but this one sounds really cool. The mixture of formal and informal is very effective in this paragraph and it makes me want to read the whole paper.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is professionally and elegantly written. Choice of words and sensory details kept me interested. I love the way you connect with your readers by asking rhetorical questions and making the starbucks experience relateable.
ReplyDeleteI like how your sentence structure combined with your diction portrayed a scene of a busy area. But the small details that you presented show that there there is still a sense of isolation in the Starbucks. You've made me want to go to this Starbucks and hang out. I don't even drink coffee.
