Highway 59; Dead or Alive

thesis:

The length of highway 59 has proved to be a place where I have experienced the most unforgettable memories since moving to Houston, it has been a place that I almost lost my life at, remembering laughing till my sides hurt just enjoying life with friends, or meeting new friends in the most bizarre kinds of ways.

Body Paragraph:

The history itself is strange without even contributing my own personal experiences. In Houston, this Highway is referred to as "Southwest Freeway," but it is commonly known as "South's Worst Freeway," because of the massive car population that seems continuous there. The population reaches around 371,000 vehicles per day, leaving no question regarding why this highway has been deemed one of the busiest freeways in the United States, driving on the highway, you are basically as insignificant as a drop of water in the ocean. Needless to say, the traffic on the highway is ridiculous, interestingly enough not only is the highway known for it's outrageous traffic, it is known for its role in transporting many illegal immigrants from Mexico to the United States. With that being said, it is obvious that there are bound to be many exciting things that happen everyday on this highway if the person is up for the experience.

  1. I agree, this highway is one of the scariest I have riden on. I like the simile about people being very insignificant on the highway like drops of water, because it feels that way with all of the aggressive drivers around. I didnt know that was known for transporting illegal immigrants, thats a very interesting fact.

  2. I have never driven on this highway before but it would be interesting if I did. You were able to give great background information about the location. I like how honest you were about what really goes on in this place. A great overall paper.

  3. Personally, I don't take 59 every day to school but I can see where you're coming from. The traffic I face everyday scares me too. In contrast to your "South's Worse Highway" I usually go on 290 which is known as "North's Worse Highway".

  5. Your paragraph was very informative! I ride 59 North everyday, commuting to UH from Sugar Land, and I had no idea the vehicle count goes as high as 371,000 per day! I just wished I could have read about some of those crazy adventures you talked about in your thesis!
